Movie Bombs That Were Great

Hello everyone!  It's been a while since I have done a post.  Well, I am back now with a post on movies that flopped at the box office that I enjoyed.  Just because a movie didn't do well at the theater doesn't mean its a "bad movie".  So off of the list on Wikipedia of "Box Office Bombs", here are my top 15 movie "bombs" that I liked(in no particular order).

1. Jack the Giant Slayer.  I liked this movie very much.  It brings more to the classic fairy tale of Jack and the Bean stock .  I also liked how they ended it leaving it open if they wanted to do a sequel(though they probably won't since it is on the "box office bombs" list *cough*). 

2. The Man From U.N.C.L.E.  I have mentioned this movie before in an older post, but it is unfortunately on the "bomb" list.  I loved this movie!  There are some *ahem* inappropriate things that can easily be skipped, but other than that it has a great story line and awesome action!

3. Monster Trucks.  This was a funny movie!  Not what I was expecting at all, but really cute and clean.

4. Pan.  Awesome movie!  I'm sad that it didn't do well at the box office.  I still hope they may make a sequel!  And I also love Hugh Jackman as Blackbeard!  Did you know that Hugh Jackman was originally considered for the role of Jack Sparrow in Pirates of the Caribbean?  The reason they went with Johnny Depp instead was because at the time Jackman wasn't known in the US, only in Australia as an actor.  I think it's great to finally see him as a pirate.  I honestly think he could have pulled of Sparrow, but Johnny Depp is Jack and always will be. 

 

5. Rise of the Guardians.  Ahh such a cute movie!  I love the whole feel of it.  I mean come on, Santa is a Russian with Naughty and Nice tattooed on his arms(see photo)!  Jack Frost is voiced by Chris Pine, who I really like as an actor.  And the Easter bunny has an Australian accent by none other than Hugh Jackman.  Super cute, fun, and overall great movie!   

6. Sahara.  This is a fun movie as well!  Action, adventure, and a funny sidekick that I like better than the main character (again, I love sidekicks<3).

7. Treasure Planet.  LOVE this movie!  Super cute movie based off of Treasure Island.  I have always loved this movie even when I was little.  It's got great story telling, action and adventure.

8. Alice Through the Looking Glass.  Again, really fun movie!  I really liked the first one, Alice in Wonderland and this one was good, too!  Plus, Richard Armitage has a short role, but it was cool to see him as well.

9. Ben-Hur.  Wonderful movie! Bit different from the original, but that's ok!  That chariot scene was amazing(as always)!

10.  Cowboys and Aliens.  Do you see the date?  It came out on my birthday (I didn't even know that till just now)!  Well shoot, of course I like it!  Any who, you'd think the name sounds ridiculous, but it actually works!  Super fun, action and adventure story (can you tell those are my favs?).

11.  Ender's Game.  Feel like I keep repeating myself, but that's ok!  Great movie!  Super fun, outer space adventure.  I read the book after I saw the movie and yah know what?  I liked the movie better.  Sure the book gives WAY more info, but I really liked how they did the movie. 

12.  Hugo.  Uh same kid that played in Ender's Game, Asa Butterfield.  But he is a great actor!  LOVED Hugo!!!  Super sweet movie!

13.  John Carter.  Very creative, fun movie!  I don't know what else to say, except that I liked it!

14.  The BFG.  Loved this movie!  Super sweet!

15. Battleship.  Yup, it's based off the game, Battleship.  And yah know what?  It's really good!  I like how they took the game and incorporated it into the movie.  Very fun movie!

Well, I must say that I am sad that other people didn't go and see these fun movies!  It's a bummer when a really good movie fails at the theaters.  That doesn't mean we still can't enjoy them knowing that they are good even if they didn't "rake in the dough".

Some of My Favorite ~Movies~

Hello, hello! So, I thought it would be fun to share with you all some of my favorite movies from some different genres. These are just in alphabetical order.

1. Action
Okay.  Action movies are my absolute FAVORITE!!  I can't think of just one that tops them all (besides LOTR for all movies, but I have that in Fantasy:)), but some of my favorites are; The Bourne movies, the Mission Impossible movies, The Man from U.N.C.L.E., Superhero movies, The A-Team, and a bunch of others that I can't think of right now, but you get the idea. :)


2. Animation
Okay, this is so hard.  There are so many animated films I love!  But some of my favorites are; Pixar movies (minus Brave), Robin Hood, Cinderella, Tangled, Big Hero 6, Peter Pan, The Croods, and more.  One animation that I cried at that I did not know that I would was, Tinker Bell and the Legend of the Neverbeast.  That ending...sniff.

3. Comedy
My least favorite genre.  Comedy.  Don't get me wrong, I love to laugh!  But these kinds of movies aren't my particular favorite.  I watch them once in a blue moon (except for Elf, but I'm kind of burned out with that one), unlike action that I can watch every day.  So, a comedy I like would have to be, any of the Tim Hawkins movies.  I know, I know, it isn't a "movie," but they are my favorite none the less! :)  He's so funny!

4. Drama
Hmmm...well one I really like is Hugo. That movie is so cute and sweet.  I just love it. <3  Otherwise, I can't really think of anything else.  Apparently I don't watch a lot of dramas. :)

5. Fantasy
THE LORD OF THE RINGS!!!!!!!!!!!!!  No you don't understand, these are my FAVORITE movies of ALL TIME!!!!!  And they always shall be.  I just LOVE them!! *happy sigh*  Best. Movies. Ever.  That's all.

6. Horror
Um...I'm not much for horror unless its the old kind.  I find them kinda funny.  So, with that being said my favorites are The House On Haunted Hill (1959) with Vincent Price, The Mummy (both new and old, but I don't find them scary), and I liked The Invasion of the Body Snatchers(I watched both, but I like the one from 1956 the best).  It's so creepy!

7. Musical
I LOVE musicals!  Well, I just love music in general.  My current favorite musical would have to be, La La Land.  It was WONDERFUL!!!  Very classic.  The music, dancing, outfits, everything.  If you haven't seen it I HIGHLY recommend it!!  Kind of interesting, but extremely cool, Ryan Gosling actually plays the piano in all of the parts!  It's amazing!!  And my other well loved favorite is of course, The Phantom of the Opera.  I have always loved it ever since I was little and I always shall. <3

8. Mystery
My favorite mystery would have to be Sherlock Holmes with Robert Downy Jr. I like the first one the very best, the second one isn't my favorite.  Another fun mystery I liked and has a fun story for the first time I saw it, would be Nancy Drew from 2007.  Surprisingly, they consider it a comedy.  Huh.  Interesting.  Moving on, you want to hear the story of the first time I saw it?  Okay, here it is.

It was my sister, Madison's 10th birthday and she wanted to have a sleepover with our friends.  The movie was, of course, Nancy Drew.  So here we are a bunch of girls 8 to 10 years of age piled in the family room with snacks, blankets and pillows(lucky me got a whole couch to myself!:)).  The room is dark except for the movie playing...we are at a darker part when all of a sudden we hear a noise and someone comes into the room.  They all freak out, I don't particularly remember freaking out, but they all did!  And into the room walks...one of the girls.  She had gone to the bathroom and flushed the toilet and freaked the other girls out.  I like to look back on that fun slumber party and remember the flush of the toilet and staying up way to late.  XD

9. Romance
Ah...yes, romance.  Again, I don't know if I have a sole "favorite," but some of my favorites would have to be Pride and Prejudice(both 1995 and 2005), While You Were Sleeping, You've Got Mail, and others I can't think of right now.  I seem to read more romance books than watch romance movies. *shrugs*

10. Science fiction
It would have to be, Rouge One.  Sniff.  I just LOVED that movie!  I don't know how Star Wars will ever top it.  It was creative, original, and just awesome!!  I even liked Jyn.  You know, I'm not the biggest fan of Rey, shoot, I am not the biggest fan of female leads in general.  So I was kind of concerned about Jyn since I didn't really like Rey.  But she was great, I especially liked that she isn't the "main character."  I felt like they divided up the time pretty equally and didn't focus solely on her.  Which I appreciate!  I must add in I also love the Star Trek movies. Particularly the newer one from 2009.

11. Western
I actually really liked The Magnificent 7.  Another western I like is Tombstone from 1993.  My favorite thing about westerns besides the action is the facial hair!  <3

Movie Review: Risen

Guys, this movie was so good!  I have seen it twice already and I thought it would be nice to do a little review for you all.  If you haven't heard of it, Risen is a story of a Roman solider who is on a mission to find the missing body of Jesus.  Only, we all know Jesus wasn't missing, He has risen from the dead! 

I loved that this movie wasn't cheesy at all.  It had a great script, awesome music, and they were all filthy.  Yes, with dirt and dust on them, but that is what made it so believable and real.  Two of my favorite characters (besides Jesus) were Simon Peter and Bartholomew.  Peter (he was called Simon mostly) was perfect, the casting, the look.  He was Peter.  And Bartholomew, he was so funny and lighthearted. 

There were some great quotes in there too, but I don't want to spoil it so I will remain silent on the matter. :)  Let's talk about the main character.

Clavius

Clavius, also called Tribune, is the main character.  He was there when Jesus was on the cross and he also helped move the stone in to place in front of the tomb.  When he hears that Jesus is gone, he digs up the dead to look for Jesus...

I really liked Clavius.   He was real and authentic...as was the whole movie.  This movie gives you faith and makes you want to go out into the world and spread the good news that Jesus is not in the grave, HE IS ALIVE!!  This movie shows us how one man comes to the light of salvation. 

I totally recommend this movie guys.  It's still in theaters if you would like to see it.   This movie was very creative in a new approach to the Easter story of God's Son dying for our sins and rising again.

Content:  It is PG-13.  There is no bad language.  Some drinking of wine.  Some blood shed (battle, the crucifixion and a cut on the leg).

Sidekicks

Good day everyone!  Today I thought it would be fun to share with you all some of my favorite sidekicks.  Sometimes I prefer the sidekick instead of the "hero." Here are some of my favorites in no particular order.

 

Luigi is, of course, the brother to Mario from all of the Mario videogames.  But I like Luigi better than Mario. Maybe it's because he doesn't get as much attention.  Whenever I play with my family 99% of the time I will pick Luigi.  He's just my character, yah know?

 

 

 

Riley from National Treasure.  I just love him, he is funny and witty.  I love some of his quotes, here are some for you to enjoy;

 

"When are we gonna get there? I'm hungry. This car smells weird."

"Who wants to go down the creepy tunnel inside the tomb first?"

"No, we didn't. We didn't miss it because... you don't know this? I know something about history that you don't know."

"Why can't they just say, 'go to this place, and here is the treasure; spend it wisely'?"

 

 

 

 

Watson from Sherlock Holmes.  First off, I love his mustache.  He is kind, and has his head on better than Sherlock.  Don't get me wrong, I love Sherlock, too.  He also dresses nicer as well. Overall I just like Watson better.

 

 

Jonathan from The Mummy movies.  He is the brother to Evelyn and is completely hilarious.  First time we meet him he scares his sister half to death, then laughs about it!  Well, I guess we would all do that with our siblings. :)  He makes the movie more light and fun.

 Obi-wan Kenobi.  I don't know if he is really considered a "sidekick," but he kind of is, so I will include him.  I LOVE Obi-wan.  I always have though, again I think its the beard.  To quote Aragorn, "It's the beards."  I love when men have beards or mustaches.  It just looks more manly to me I guess.  Anywho, Obi is kind, thoughtful, a great fighter, and I think he was a good teacher.  Even though we all know what happens to his student. Ehmm.  But he did love Anakin and he loves Luke too.   Overall he is, and always shall be, my favorite Star Wars character.

The Best Movie Endings

Hello to all!  I thought it would be fun to share with you all some of my favorite movie endings.  Some endings are good but I am going to list the ones I think are the best.  Let me know if we have any of the same ones.

The Lord of the Rings: Return of the King has probably the saddest movie ending or one of the saddest.  But I love it.  It rounds up all the times they shared together and all the adventures they went through to come to this point.  You don't want it to end.  You don't want to say good-bye.  But that is what makes it a great ending...you have connected with the characters, you shared in their turmoil, in their joy, you shared in their grief and had a connection with all of them.  That's what gets me.

But then you see Frodo smile and know that he is going to a better place.  And Sam...dear Sam. He goes home to a beautiful family and ends with these words, "Well, I'm back."  This ending makes me cry, but it is good.  I love this world so much.  That is why I will keep watching the movies over and over again.  You never lose that feeling when you hear the music, you see the Shire, you feel...home.  "I will not say, 'do not weep,' for not all tears are an evil." Thanks Gandalf.  I'm glad I have your permission. *wipes tears*

Star Wars: Return of the Jedi.  I love the new ending to this one.  The old one had the older man who played Darth Vader be the blue ghost thing.  In this one it has the younger Anakin Skywalker which I think is way better.  It is so good!  Seeing him young standing there with Yoda and Obi-wan.  Love this ending because in the end no words need to be said.  You see that Anakin in the end was a good guy.

The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies.  What an ending!  It brings us around full circle to the beginning of The Fellowship of the Ring.  I love that!!  And then Billy Boyd singing "I Saw the Light."  I cried so hard at the movie theater, and I kept crying on the way home.  I think it was because...not just that Thorin, Fili, and Kili died, it was because it really was the end.  The end of all of the movies.  *tears*  Even though it is the beginning of the others.

The Chronicles of Narnia: The Voyage of the Dawn Treader.  I LOVE this ending.  Sadly, I couldn't find a video for it in English.  It is so good though.  "In your world I am known by another name.  You must learn to know me by it.  That is the very reason you were brought to Narnia.  For knowing me here for a little, you may know me better there." - Aslan.  And that name is Jesus.  That is why I love this ending so much!  Because I know Him by the other name. :)

 These are my favorite movie scenes.  I love all of these stories so much.  They teach us about friendship, loyalty, courage, and more.  They inspire us to do great things. To not be afraid to go on an adventure like Bilbo.  To not be afraid to take the ring to Mordor like Frodo.  To not be afraid like Luke to leave his home behind and move forward, to fight for what's right.  To go through the open door like Lucy, and follow Aslan, no matter what others say, and to be brave and have courage like Peter, Susan, and Edmund.  These are the stories that stay with us.  I shall end this post with the words of Samwise....

1. What is one of the worst movies you've seen?

Hmmm well, I didn't care for Transcendence with Johnny Depp...it was...odd...shall we say.

2. Do you have a favorite piece of furniture in your house?

My favorite piece of furniture would have to be my antique vanity that my Dad painted for me.

Here she is!  I love the little bits of pink and that it's vintage.

3. Where do you best like to read?

I like to read on my bed mostly, or sitting on the couch.

4. When was the last time a book made you laugh out loud?

I think I laughed at some point in one of the Apocalypse Diaries books by John Hagee.  I can't remember an exact scene.

5. If you could spend one day with any fictional character, whom would it be?

This is so hard.   Ummm Farimir?  Obi-wan, Aslan or Robin Hood...I really don't know.  Any of them would be awesome!

6. What is your favorite Christmas movie?

Well, White Christmas, Polar Express, The Nativity, Elf, Christmas in Connecticut, and Miracle on 34th Street.  I know its more than one, I couldn't help myself! :D  But if I had to pick just one it would probably be The Nativity, because it is so wonderfully told and is the most important part of Christmas.

7. If you have a bookshelf in your room(if not, then just choose one from somewhere in your house), how many books are on it?

I actually have two book cases, on my big one I have one hundred and fifteen books, on my second one that is smaller I have thirty-one.  I had no idea I had so many books!

C.S. Lewis, Francine Rivers, and Frank Pretti.

The Chronicles of Narnia, and the Mark of the Lion series by Francine Rivers.

4. What would your dream job be?

To be an actress in Christian Movies or to do Voice-Overs.

I like to play piano, sew, write songs, bake, sing, and taking pictures.  I also like to play on our wii with my family.

1. Which TV shows, if any, are on your to-watch list?

Well, I missed most of season two for When Calls The Heart, and I would eventually like to watch that because I enjoyed the first season.  Maybe Downtown Abby?  I have heard that it is pretty good, so I am interested in that one.  Maybe Agent Carter, my brother watched it and loved it so I think I would enjoy it, but other than that I don't know.  Suggestions?

 2. Is there a book you know you'll have to read eventually (i.e. for school) but know (or think) you won't like?

I graduated this year, so I don't have to read anything for school, and I am not in college.  But this last school year I had to read Beowulf and I wasn't looking forward to that, but I read it and it wasn't my personal favorite.

3. What motivated you to start blogging? (It's fun to read how different people got into it, no?:D)

I don't really know, to be honest.  I guess I thought it would be fun, but then I didn't do anything with it for months, and then I commented on your blog, Olivia, and you responded to me and put my blog on your Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious blogs page, and commented on my first blog post and it made me feel like I could do it.  So that is when I decided to pick back up and keep going. :D

4. What's your favorite season?

Fall, I love seeing the leaves change color and the air is getting crisp, it's so wonderful.

5. Do you have any pets?

We have two dogs and a pot-bellied pig named Georgia.  

This is my girl, Pepper, she is a Shih Tzu and Poodle mix.  You can't see her eyes because they are so dark!

And this is Theodore, he is a Schnauzer and Poodle mix.  He's my sister's dog, they are both so sweet!

And last but not least, Georgia, she is a Pot Bellied Pig.

6. What genre of music do you most often find yourself buying on iTunes, or if you don't have an iPod/iPhone, what is your favorite genre of music in general?

I do have an iPod and I like mostly Christian music, Third Day, Newsboys, Toby Mac, Crystal Lewis, and Amy Grant.  There's more but these are some examples.  I also have Into The Woods, Julie Andrews favorite Disney songs, Piano Guys, and some Phantom of the Opera songs.  My favorite genre is more upbeat/rock, I like to tap my foot or get into it with bobbing my head up and down. :D

7. Top 5 favorite LotR characters? 

Gandalf, Samewise, Aragorn, Farimir, and Eowyn.

8. What is your biggest pet peeve?

I am a neat freak, so I really don't like it when there are things in a mess, dishes in the sink, things sitting out, that kind of thing.

9. Water, milk, or juice--which one do you drink more often?

Water, it's so good for you and refreshing.

10. Do you have any especially fun Christmas or New Year traditions?

We normally take a baking day before Christmas Eve and make all kinds of yummy things.
We always open a gift on Christmas Eve, and leave out summer sausage, cheese and crackers for Santa.  As for New Year's, it's my brothers birthday so we go out to eat, and lately I have just been going to bed earlier than midnight, I like my sleep. :)
