A Tolkien Party!

Hello everyone!! Today in Middle Earth it is Bilbo and Frodo's Birthdays! 
There is a blog that is doing a giveaway, and all kinds of fun things this week. She also left it open for anyone to do the questions or enter the giveaway! The blog doing it is by Hamlette.  I am looking forward to this week!

 

 

 

1.  What draws you to Tolkien's stories?  (The characters, the quests, the themes, the worlds, etc.)

  All of the above?!  Honestly, I really do love it all.  But if am to get a little more specific, the characters are awesome. The overall story of good conquering evil, always makes a good story.  The world and places are lovely, the languages too, but very complex.


2.  What was the first Middle Earth book you read and/or movie you saw?  What did you think of it?


Well, I first saw the movies, before I read the books.  I have always loved them ever since I first saw them, I guess you could say it was love at first sight. :)  As for when I first read the books, it was harder for me to get into it at first, but once I kept going they got better.


3.  Name three of your favorite characters and tell us why you like them.

I am just going to do LOTR on this one.  But for The Hobbit, it's Bilbo, Bard, and Fili.

Gandalf:  He is so cool.  I mean, here is a guy who not only does fireworks (which he does very well indeed) but is also a protector, wise, and a good mentor.  He is the only Maiar who does what he is supposed to do on earth, his whole reason was to assist and counsel the people of Middle Earth.  He stayed his post, till the very end.  Even after he "died" he got brought back because he was need to accomplish what need to be done, and only he would see it through.

Samwise:  He is the type of friend you want in real-life.  He is so self-sacrificing and brave.  He will go with you till the very end, even if it costs his life.  Because that is what a true friend is.  They stick with you, and encourage you along the way.  And he won't leave you to do it alone, either.  He'll lift you up when you are feeling down, literally. :D

Aragorn:  He protects the people of Middle Earth, If anyone needs any help, he's there.  And yet he is meant to be a King.  It's kind of like Jesus, He didn't come to be served, but to serve others.  Like Aragorn, when he heard that the Hobbits needed help, he was going to be there, to serve them, to help them.  And that's why I love the guy.  He too, is self-sacrificing, courageous, and a great friend.

Aragorn: "I would have gone with you to the end, into the very fires of Mordor."

Frodo: "I know."

4.  Are there any secondary characters you think deserve more attention?

5.  What Middle Earth character do you relate to the most?

 

I have no idea.  I guess I would go with Eowyn? 

 

6.  If you could ask Professor Tolkien one Middle Earth-related question, what would you like to ask him?

 

"If you could go anywhere in the world you created, where would you go?"

 

 

7.  Are there any pieces of Middle Earth merchandise you would particularly like to own, but don't?

I would really like to have The Hobbit Monopoly game, or the Elven Leaf broach.

 

 

8.  What battle would you absolutely not want to be part of?

The Battle of the Five Armies or Helms Deep.

 

 

9.  Would you rather eat a meal at the Rivendell or Bag End?

 

As much as I love the Elves, I would go with Bag End on this one.  The food sounds delicious, and Gandalf's fireworks would be a sight to see!

Space...the Final Frontier...

Hello everyone!  I hope you are all having a great day.  Yesterday and over the weekend, I watched Star Trek behind the scenes/gag reel with my mom and sister.  (The ones by J.J. Abrams.)  It makes you realize how much work goes into making movies.  They did a fantastic job! I also watched both of the newer movies, which I have seen before....just wanted to watch them again.

I love Star Trek, but I don't think I would have watched it if it weren't for my Mom.  She watched the original TV show when she was a little girl and has always loved it.  She has collected toys, to seeing the first movie in the theater.  She loves it like I love Lord of the Rings.  Just a heads up if you haven't seen the movies before, be prepared for some spoilers ahead.  :)

Mr.Spock, Captain James T. Kirk and Dr. McCoy.  They are just the best! 
You can't help but love them all, but for different reasons.  So allow me to elaborate my feelings for  each of these awesome guys.  I will also be using pictures from the new movies and old TV show. 
 And I might as well go in order of the photo above.


                          
                         

Let's start with Mr. Spock, shall we?

Mr. Spock is Vulcan, so he is the logical one of the group.

You can't help but love the guy, I mean, he's funny in his own 'straight face' sort of way and a friend you would want in real life.  He is super intelligent and I love the way he talks. 

He also has pointy ears...which someone else in another fandom I love also has, though they are a different kind of point. (*whispers* Legolas)

There are so many quotable sayings in these movies!  Kirk and Spock are so funny!  Though they are being totally serious.  When is Spock not serious?

 Now let's move on to the Captain himself.  Ladies and Gentlemen, I present to you...

Captain James T. Kirk.

  Now here is a guy who obviously loves adventure. In the TV series he was always going down to the planets, then something bad would happen.  But they always got out of it one way or another. 

 In the movies he is prideful, arrogant and in the words of Captain Pike,

"...and you don't respect the chair."  Ouch.  But you can see at the end of the movie and even during it, he really does love his crew. 

 As Khan said, "My crew is my family, Kirk.  Is there anything you would not do for your family?" 

 Kirk proves that his love for his family (crew) is so strong that he will risk everything in order to save them.  He willingly died (not really) so that they may live.

Also, Chris Pine does a fantastic job playing Kirk!

I noticed that William Shatner has brown eyes and Chris has really blue ones.  Though they still do resemble each other, I think.

Over all, Kirk is a good guy.  He would do anything for his crew and wants to do what's right, even if that means breaking a few rules along the way.

Dr. Leonard McCoy, also known as Bones.

I love this guy to pieces!!  He so funny and just plain awesome!

If you have never watched these movies before...you are missing out!

Now Bones has an interesting relationship with Spock.  One time in the movie Spock was agreeing with Bones (which is not normal) so he said to Spock, "Don't agree with me, Spock, it makes me very uncomfortable."  He is also funny with Kirk, too.

The actor that plays him in the new movies you may recognize as this guy.

Yup.  He plays Eomer from The Lord of the Rings. 

I was freaking out when I first heard that it was him years ago.  I think that it's awesome to have a guy from my fandom in Star Trek.  He does an AMAZING job as Bones!!  And of course, as Eomer, too.

Conclusion.  These guys are just plain awesome, no joke.  They have a great relationship with one another. To be able to joke around and all that, but also to care deeply about one other.

I will say, though, I do think that Spock and Bones are not as close, as Kirk is to them and them to him. 

As a final note, after watching the behind the scenes and all that stuff, I actual love and appreciate the movies even more.  They are so awesome!

The End of Summer Tag

  Hello everyone!  Well the end of summer is here and frankly I'm ok with that, why?
  Because Fall is my favorite time of the year!!  Its so beautiful outside with the leaves changing
  color, the crisp cool air and the clothes!  Yay!  Time for sweat pants and sweaters and fire's and
  yummy hot drinks and so much more!  So exciting!   Now onto the post.

1. How was your summer?
  My summer was great!  I went on some trips and got to go swimming (one of the best parts of

  summer in my opinion) and just had a really great time.

 

2. What was a highlight for you?
We went on a road trip to eight different states and two countries in only eight days!!

It was so much fun!!

 

3. What was the best thing you did?
    While we were on our road trip we went to Victoria, Canada.  It was my birthday the day

     we were there.  It was so beautiful!

 

4. What was the worst thing about the summer?
    Can't really say there was a worst thing. 

 

5. What was one of the craziest things you did this summer?
     We went to Bear World on our road trip and we got in this big vehicle and fed the

      bears bread, which was fun!  But I guess it could count as crazy?

 

6. What books were you reading?
  I read The New England Romance Collection, The Prairie Romance Collection,

  The Reluctant Brides Collection, The British Brides Collection, Where Courage Calls by

  Janette Oke and A Sensible Arrangement by Tracie Peters.  I have started reading some

  other books as well but haven't finished yet...

 

7. Are you going to school, or staying at home?
  I graduated and I am going to be staying home. 

  I am looking into some college courses to take online.

 

8. Are you excited about school?
  Sure.  Whenever I start.  I found some really interesting classes to take online I'm excited

  about.

 

9. What was a highlight of last year's school year?
  I liked a work book I did that is call British Literature where I would read a book

  and then I would answer questions and such. 

 

10. Are you looking forward to fall weather, and winter?

 YES!!!  I am so ready for fall and winter!!  I love this time of year coming up!  My favorite!

      1.  My Family.  I love my family so much!  God has blessed me beyond belief!

                 1.  My favorite band is Third Day and my favorite artist is David Crowder.

                 2.  Some of my favorite male singers are;  Mac Powell, Kevin Max and Michael Buble.

                 3.  Some of my favorite female singers are; Crystal Lewis, Jodi Benson and Julie Andrews.

                 4.  My favorite type of music is a lot of different things!
                      I like Christian, Classical, Rock, Opera, some Rap (like Toby Mac and Lecrae)
                      and others!

                 5.  Favorite musical.  Well, I like a lot of musicals.  The Phantom of the Opera,
                         Mary Poppins, Into the Woods, Les Miserables and more!

                 6.  For plays I have seen the Jungle Book and The Phantom of the Opera on stage.
                       The Phantom of the Opera was amazing!
                         
                 7.  My favorite duet song, I like All I Ask of You and A Whole New World.
                      
                 8.  Best music score; Lord of the Rings, The Phantom of the Opera, Star Wars,
                         Star Trek and Pirates of the Caribbean.  I could go on! :)

                 9.  Instruments, yes, I play the piano and I have been for over six years. 
                         I can also play some guitar.

                10.  Concerts I have been to:  Toby Mac, Third Day and I did see a concert where they
                           played the instruments and the movie played behind for The Lord of the Rings:
                           The Fellowship of the Ring.

                     Hello everyone!  I hope you are having an awesome day!  This post is pretty
                     self explanatory.  Its about a bunch of things I love.  Let me know if any of it

             Disney.

             I mean who doesn't love Disney?!  I love going to Disneyland with my family.  It's so much  
             fun, has a great atmosphere and awesome food! :D
             It really is the happiest place on earth!

            My favorite princess of all time is...Cinderella!  Some of my favorite older Disney
            animations are Peter Pan, Robin Hood and Snow White.  For newer, I like Pixar movies
            such as Monsters Inc., Up and Toy Story, to name a few.
      .

          Reading.
          Some of my favorite authors are C.S. Lewis, J.R.R. Tolkien,  Francine Rivers and
          Frank Peretti.  Who are some of your favorites?

       

                 Old movies and actors.
                 The man above is Clark Gable.  One of the movies he played in was Gone with the Wind.
                 I think he's so handsome!  Let me know some of your favorite actors new or old!

        Fred Astaire's dancing.
       The best. dancer. ever. In my opinion.  If you have never seen him dance before you should!
       He's amazing!  He looks like he is walking on air.  Some movies I have seen him in are
       Holiday Inn, The Band Wagon, Daddy Long Legs and Funny Face.

       The Lord of the Rings.
       "Now then, where to begin?  Ah, yes!" I do not remember seeing the movie for the first time
        because I have seen it so many times since.  I just love it!  I have a map of Middle Earth
        hanging in my room.

       The moment you see the Shire and you hear the music, you just feel something.
       It's so beautiful.  The characters, you really connect with them.  Its like you are going with them
       on this grand adventure.  You feel their pain, sadness and joy. 

       At the end when all is said and done.  You feel sad.  That this great adventure is over again.
       I think we all long for some other world.  Its because we were not meant to be in this one
       forever.  There is a much better place that has no pain or sadness, only joy.

       And I for one can't wait to get there.  But for now I am going to enjoy the adventure of this life
       God has given me.  And I know that not all of it will be perfect, after all it isn't in the good
       stories anyway.   But I know God will never leave me nor forsake me.  Nor will He you.
